About Atour Sargon
Atour Sargon is a Lincolnwood Trustee, public policy professional, community advocate, and first-generation Assyrian-American who has spent her career working to make government more responsive, transparent, and inclusive.
Born and raised on the Northside of Chicago and in Lincolnwood, Atour has deep roots in the community she is proud to call home. Her parents immigrated from Iraq in search of safety, opportunity, and equality, instilling in her a strong belief in public service, hard work, and the importance of giving back to the community.
In 2019, Atour made history when she was elected to the Village of Lincolnwood Board of Trustees, becoming the first Assyrian-American woman elected to municipal government in Illinois. She was re-elected in 2023 and is now serving her second term.
As a Trustee, Atour has focused on the issues that matter most to Lincolnwood families: responsible financial management, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, community engagement, and ensuring that Village government remains accountable and transparent.

During her tenure on the Village Board, Lincolnwood has made significant investments in its infrastructure, public safety, financial stability, and quality of life. Atour has helped advance initiatives including:

Infrastructure investment: More than $8 million in road and water-main improvements since 2019, helping address aging infrastructure throughout the Village.

Flood prevention: Implementation of the Street Storage Program and increased incentives for private-property stormwater management to help reduce flooding.

Fiscal responsibility: Restoring the Village's favorable credit status and paying off general fund debt while maintaining a strong financial foundation.

Public safety: Supporting additional police staffing and body cameras for Lincolnwood police officers.

Modernizing Village facilities: Helping update the Village's Strategic Plan to guide long-term improvements to aging facilities and better serve Lincolnwood's diverse and growing community.

Economic development: Supporting the creation of District 1860, Lincolnwood's first mixed-use development, bringing new residential, retail, restaurant, and hospitality opportunities to the Village.

Improved services: Supporting new sidewalks and streetlights, expanded snow removal, and other improvements that make Lincolnwood safer and more accessible.

Support for residents and businesses: During the COVID-19 pandemic, helping connect senior residents with wellness checks, food, and household necessities while supporting local businesses through an unprecedented period of uncertainty.

Community recognition: Helping establish municipal recognition of Assyrian New Year and Assyrian Remembrance Day in Lincolnwood.
These accomplishments reflect Atour's belief that strong local government should be financially responsible, forward-thinking, and focused on delivering high-quality services to residents.

Atour believes that Lincolnwood is strongest when every resident feels heard, respected, and represented.
Throughout her time in office, she has prioritized community engagement and has worked to strengthen the connection between residents and Village government. She believes residents should have meaningful opportunities to participate in decisions that shape the future of their neighborhoods and community.
Atour is committed to advancing the shared values of Lincolnwood through accountability, transparency, equity, inclusion, and opportunity. She believes these principles should guide how local government operates and how the Village plans for its future.
Advocating for the Assyrian Community
Atour's commitment to public service extends well beyond Lincolnwood.
As a first-generation Assyrian-American, she has worked to ensure that Assyrian history, culture, and perspectives are recognized and represented in public life.
Atour is the founder of Ishtar's Circle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Assyrian women through leadership development, education, and community engagement. She has also served in leadership roles with organizations advocating for Assyrian rights and representation.
Her advocacy has helped advance important statewide initiatives, including the establishment of the Illinois Assyrian Caucus, the creation of an accredited Assyrian language course in Illinois, and the inclusion of Assyrian Genocide studies in the Illinois State Board of Education's curriculum.
She has also worked to advance recognition of Assyrian Remembrance Day at the state, county, and municipal levels.
For Atour, this work is about more than recognition. It is about ensuring that future generations understand their history, that communities have a voice in public life, and that the lessons of history help build a more just and inclusive future.
Professional Experience & Education
Why Atour Is Running for Re-Election
Atour brings a background in public policy, government, advocacy, and community organizing to her work as a Trustee.
She earned a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Master's degree in Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University. She was also selected as a 2019 delegate to the Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership Training Academy.
Before and alongside her local government service, Atour has worked in public policy and advocacy, developing experience in government relations, community engagement, coalition building, and policy development.
That experience informs her approach to local government: listen to residents, understand the facts, bring people together, and work toward practical solutions.
Atour is running for re-election because she believes in Lincolnwood—and in what this community can accomplish together.
Over the past several years, she has worked to build a stronger financial foundation, invest in infrastructure, improve public safety, support economic development, strengthen Village services, and make local government more engaged and responsive.
But there is more work to do.
Atour wants to continue building on this progress by investing responsibly in Lincolnwood's infrastructure, maintaining strong Village finances, supporting public safety and high-quality services, encouraging thoughtful economic development, strengthening community engagement, and ensuring Lincolnwood remains a welcoming community for families of all backgrounds.
She believes the next chapter for Lincolnwood should be defined by responsible growth, smart investment, strong neighborhoods, and a government that listens to its residents.
Lincolnwood Is Home
Atour's connection to Lincolnwood is personal.
After growing up in the community, she moved back to Lincolnwood in 2016 with her husband, Peter, and their two children. Today, they are raising their family in the same community that has been such an important part of Atour's life.
They enjoy Lincolnwood's parks, trails, community events, and summers at the pool—and, most importantly, the people who make Lincolnwood feel like home.
Atour is proud to serve the community she grew up in, returned to, and loves.
She is asking for the opportunity to continue that service and to keep working alongside her neighbors to build an even stronger Lincolnwood for the next generation.
